Beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate is an organic acid, an amino acid derivative, and more specifically the metabolite of an essential amino acid – L-Leucine – that is also produced in the human body.
HMB promotes muscle and strength gains when combined with resistance training. Supplementing with HMB also increases muscle protein synthesis and reduces muscle protein breakdown, leading to gains in muscle mass.
HMB decreases exercise-induced muscle protein breakdown. This, in turn speeds up recovery from exercise-induced muscle damage. It also assists in accelerating the loss of body fat.
